A PART of me went with you, the day God called you home, the heartbroken wife of the late Waana Samulozela has shared while bidding farewell to her husband during an emotional funeral service held at the Army Chapel in Arakan Barracks yesterday.
As the brown casket carrying the remains of her husband arrived, the widow, Womba, surrounded by family members and sympathisers, could no longer contain her grief.
Her husband, Waana, a pharmacist by profession, was brutally shot dead in Solwezi barely a week ago along with his sister, Womba Samulozela, by his brother-in-law, police officer Funkuta Muyembi, Womba’s husband, who later turned the gun on himself to take his life.
Though physically present at the funeral, the widow was emotionally broken to speak and had her tribute read on her behalf by her sister.
The tribute drew tears from mourners as it revealed the depth of their love and the pain left behind.
She described their love story as one that began in secondary school and blossomed into marriage, a bond she said remained strong until his very last breath.
“You never told me you were leaving. You never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why,” the widow wrote .
Waana’s wife recounted how, just two days before his tragic death, the deceased sent her a TikTok video professing his love and commitment to their marriage.
She responded with a promise to stand by him ‘until death do us part’ not knowing death came earlier than expected.
The widow also reflected on their last trip together to Livingstone just three weeks ago, an adventure that unknowingly became their final moment together.
But it was the final lines of her tribute that left the chapel in silence, pierced only by sobs.
“A part of me went with you, the day God called you home,” she declared, leaving many mourners in tears.
After the service, Waana’s casket was carried out of the chapel by pallbearers and escorted to his final resting place.
Waana was laid to rest yesterday at Leopards Hill Memorial Park, while Womba, his sister was buried on Monday in Solwezi.
He has left behind, the wife and four daughters.
