Once a law enforcement hero, 59-year-old Agrippa Chinyama has now turned is retirement free time to swap his protective duty to fulfill the ordinance of filling the earth, but this time at the expense of his marital status as his marriage stands in limbo.

This is in a case where Angela Chinyama, 52, filed for divorce from her husband at the Matero Local Court, citing Agrippa’s inability to remain faithful as the main reason for their 31-year-old marriage dissolution.

It was heard that Agrippa, had been busy sprinkling his baby-making seed in three other women, resulting in not one, not two, but three pregnancies outside his marriage.

Angela, hailing from Barlastone area shared that Agrippa’s hat trick led to him gathering his baby mama with their three children to start staying at their matrimonial home, creating a chaotic and untenable situation that she likened to the polygamy depicted on the popular Zambia telenova “Mpali.”

Despite repeatedly forgiving her husband’s infidelity and enduring two separate periods of separation, Angela revealed that her husband continued his womanising ways without remorse or accountability.

Angela noted that despite her efforts to salvage their marriage, her husband showed no signs of changing his behaviour and seemed content on maintaining his adulterous lifestyle, leaving her with no choice but to pack and leave his house.

“What hurt me the most is the fact that he went as far as impregnating a 23-year-old girl. When I confronted him about the girl’s age, he had the nerve to say that 23 is okay because she is not 18, as if that somehow excuses his actions,” she lamented.

She also stated that lack of proper communication and a complete disregard for her feelings have been major issues in their marriage.

Adding to her grievances, Angela accused her husband of abandoning her after he received his retirement package from the police force, refusing to disclose the amount of money he received or provide any financial support to her.

In response to his wife’s allegations, Agrippa shifted the blame to his wife, accusing her of being stubborn, unresponsive to reconciliation efforts and disrespectful of his desires.

“My wife is very difficult to talk to and doesn’t listen to me. She has been uncooperative when I tried to reconcile with her, and even went as far as to put a male student in our house for rent without my consent,” he claimed.

Presiding over the case, senior magistrate Lewis Mumba expressed his disappointment at the unhealthy state of their marriage, noting that a marriage should be a union of love and respect, but their union had become a breeding ground of mistrust, infidelity and communication breakdowns.

Magistrate Mumba advised the couple to prioritise understanding, analysis, and action over material possessions.

“Money comes and goes. You can’t buy life. In this life, you have to learn to understand, analyse, and act accordingly. Your husband may be bitter, and while you are bitter as well, you are partly to blame for the state of your relationship. I won’t rush to make a decision in this case. I will take the time necessary to make a fair judgment,” he said.

Magistrate Mumba further adjourned the matter to August 14, 2025.
