AMIDST the skyrocketing divorce cases that rock the City of Lusaka, a divorced couple warmed the heart of the court after it emulated Muzala Samukonga’s decision on pledges as it U-turned to get back together barely months after splitting.

Silan Mumba, had seen the consequences of living alone amidst load shedding and decided to pack his pride as he rushed to apologies to his former wife, Astridah Mvula barely four months after he swore before the court that he didn’t want anything to do with her and regretted marrying her.

But the pressure of cooking on a brazier at 06:00 hours accompanied by compensation fees begged to disagree with his statement.

The couple divorced on June 18 this year, and Mumba was ordered to compensate Mvula with k3,600 while their child, who’s custody was given to the mother was to be maintained with k600 monthly.

Noticing that unlike the Kariba Dam, not all of his love for her had dried up, Mumba overcame the sleepleess nights of thinking of his woman and decided he needed to bring her back.

So he called his family, who later accompanied him to Mvula’s family were they bagged to be forgiven.

But after Mvula accepted to reconcile with him, the couple was advised to go back to court and cancel their divorce.

“The court loves to see such things. We are against divorce because it affects children. But people think we love to see people separate. No. It is good that you two sat down with both families and have decided to reconcile. The court shall not stop you but simply advise that you both work on the things that led to your divorce,” said Magistrate Lewis Mumba as he counselled the couple.

He advised both parents to sit down their children with traditional counselors once more, so they can both work on their previous mistakes if the marriage was to work.

“So the court had cancelled this divorce. you have seen the consequences of living alone. But I will advise you to follow tradition, go back to your former wife’s family once more, start afresh, let them charge you a small amount that you should pay before getting her because when you divorced her,” the Magistrate said.

“She (Mvula) became a single woman and anyone could have married her and paid her bride price.”

Following his remarks, Magistrate Mumba canceled the couple’s divorce, and just like that the ex- divorcee had his ‘ichibyongo’ back.
