
THE Copper Princesses have made history, cementing their legacy as the queens of the Under-17 COSAFA Girls Championship.
With an electrifying 15-0 victory over Lesotho in today’s final, Zambia claimed their second title and emerged as one of the most successful side in the tournament’s history.
The star of the show? None other than Mercy Chipasula, contrary to her first name, and inspired by her last name the goal poacher was ruthless on goal, scattering Lesotho defence, netting seven goals.
Chipasula was not alone in the goal-festival as Masela Sekeseke bagged a hat-trick, striking in the 4th, 57th, and 60th minutes. Hellen Banda added her flair with a brace in the 6th and 75th minutes of the game while Lilian Mwenda and Janet Chirwa made their mark late in the game.
Wendy Mwikisa delivered the final blow to complete the demolition and highlight that Zambia’s future in women’s football looked brighter.
Meanwhile, the Copper Princesses’ Loveness Chingwele won the Goalkeeper of the Tournament Award, Chipasula scooped the Top Goal Scorer of the Tournament Award and player of the match in the final.
Chipasula thanked her team mates for the great performance and working as as team to bring the trophy home and the fans for their continuous support.
