Shaney Sibusiso Mateta is a Zambian 10-year-old Tennis player whose dreams are higher than her age.
With only a decade in her age pocket thus far, young Mateta’s achievements in Sports are way beyond 2014.
Coached by her father, Sydney Mateta, the young girl has proved to be a burning force in Tennis as she has already racked up a number of titles in a short space of time with her first being the Midlands Junior Closed 2021 (Girls Under 6) Winner.
While she has broken many records and challenged her personal achievements, Mateta’s dream and target is to become one of the youngest players to win a Grand Slam tournament.
The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year.
The little champ clad in a Goliath outfit has since been training hard to achieve this, as she believes she has what it takes to aim for one of the major tennis titles in future.
Her recent participation representing Zambia was at the 2024 Little Mo Tennis Championship in New Jersey, USA.
In an Interview with ZNBC, Mateta said with adequate support and training facilities, she has what it takes to dominate in her age group.
During her USA outing, Mateta finished as runner-up in the girls’ Under-10 back draw category.
In the competition, over 2,000 children from 70 different countries took part comprising girls and boys between the ages 8 and 12.
Among the many titles she has bagged also include the Midlands Junior Closed 2022(Girls Under 8) Winner, Midlands Junior Christmas Tournament 2022 Girls Under 8 Winner, Champions Haven Junior Open Tournament 2023 (Girls Under 10) Winner.
Furthermore, she bagged; the Mike Mambwe Junior Tennis Championship 2023 (Girls Under 10), Winner, Midlands Junior Christmas Tournament 2023 (Girls Under 10) -Winner, Women’s Day Tennis Tournament (Girls under 10) Winner and the Women’s Day Tennis Tournament (Girls Under 12) runners Up.
