SPECTATORS were ‘treated to a braai’ yesterday at Lusaka’s Nkoloma stadium as the Zambia Air Force sponsored football team, Red arrows scorched Green Buffaloes in 1:0 thriller.
The two military teams brought out their fighter jets, artillery among other weaponry, in a combat for the top position in the MTN Super League 2024/25 season, week one rescheduled match.
After 43 minutes of misfiring missiles at each other, with no penetration on either of the goalposts, the Airmen finally hit the bulls eye with a Ricky Banda goal.
Banda managed to legally blow away the buffaloes for some game meat, unlike poachers who annihilate animals for horns, skin and teeth among other products.
As the battle for scores intensified, the Airmen were reduced to 10 after their teammate Peter Kalota was red carded in the 63rd minute.
Despite Red Arrows having a man down, and six extra minutes added to the game, the Zambia Army sponsored team could not fight and conquer their opponents, until the final whistle was blown.
Red Arrows painted Chelston area red while spectators wished they had not forgotten to carry their tooth picks to feast on the roasted wounded buffaloes in the stadium.
Meanwhile, in another match, Zesco United delivered a power outage to NAPSA Stars, shutting them down with a 1-0 win.
NAPSA stars were stopped from giving partial withdraws to pensioners, when they were switched off in the sixty-third minute of the game by Zega mambo, with a goal from Edward Lungu.
