ZAMBIA’s mixed martial arts team has proved to be a force to be reckoned with at the 2024 IMMAF Africa Championship in Windhoek, Namibia, with several athletes punching their way into the finals.

Abraham Banda soared to the bantamweight finals after his opponent missed weight, while Miracle Chipito continued her dominance to secure a spot in the women’s flyweight championship.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Ndhlovu showcased his striking prowess by outmaneuvering his opponent over three rounds to claim a convincing decision victory.

However, Zambia’s winning streak was momentarily halted by Killian Lungu’s heartbreaking knee injury, forcing him to forfeit his match but securing a bronze medal.

Despite the setback, MMAZ president, Benjamin Bush, remained optimistic.

He praised Lungu’s unwavering determination and predicted a bright future for the young athlete who had his eyes on gold.

“His readiness and determination to compete were evident, and while he couldn’t participate, the Zambian team and supporters are confident that he has a bright future ahead. We wish Killian a speedy recovery and continued success.” Bush said.

Meanwhile Mutinta Mweene also displayed exceptional talent but was on the wrong end of a controversial judging call.

Bush expressed his belief that Mweene was the rightful winner and applauded her fighting spirit.

“Her journey is far from over, and the Zambian team stands behind her.” He said

With three more semifinals to conquer, Team Zambia marches forward with unwavering focus and the unwavering support of their home nation.

The finals promise to be a nail-biting affair, with the entire country rallying behind Banda, Chipito, and the rest of the team as they strive to transform Zambia’s MMA scene into a gold mine today

The finals and medal ceremony will be held today.
