POLICE in Luapula Province are currently investigating PF Mambilima Member of Parliament, Jean Chisenga for allegedly stealing money amounting to K10,000 and a laptop belonging to a UPND cadre in Kawambwa district.
Luapula Province Police commanding officer, Mwala Yuyi told Kalemba that Chisenga, in the company of her fellow Tonse Alliance members yesterday afternoon, around 15:00 hours went and allegedly badged into a named lodge in Kawambwa were a UPND cadre, who hasn’t been named was lodging.
Political parties camped in Kawambwa ahead of the Kawambwa by-election to drum up support for their candidates who are vying for the position of parliamentarian.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) set tomorrow Friday as the Kawambwa Parliamentary by-elections to replace former occupant, Nickson Chilangwa who was jailed recently.
But while in campaign mode, Chisenga told the owner of the lodge where the UPND cadre was lodging claiming that the victim was harbouring machetes in his room and conducted an illegal search in the absence of the room occupant, but in the presence of the owner of the lodge.
“As you know, only police can conduct legal searches. So after they searched, they didn’t find anything which was confirmed by the owner of the lodge that they didn’t find anything,” Yuyi said.
He added that after the owner of the room returned back, he discovered that he was missing some money amounting to K10,000 and a laptop whose value has been estimated to be K8,000.
“So, because we are civilised police officers, we summoned the MP so that we can question her. The call out indicated that we meet today at 09:00 hours but the MP has decided not to come. So from that time we have not done anything. We are just waiting for her.”
“But if we were to search for her, you know Kawambwa is a small place we could have found her already,” disclosed Yuyi.
Chisenga has been in the spotlight for misconduct in parliament and was recently suspended for gross dishonourable conduct by Speaker, Nelly Mutti so as to allow her to self reflect and introspect after her actions.
