THE Parliamentary seat for fugitive law maker, Emanuel Jay Jay Banda has finally been declared vacant and ready to be occupied by a different candidate following Jay Jay’s three months missing episode.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has today announced that it has set February 6, 2025, as the date for the Constituency by-elections.
The date will also cover two wards by-elections in Ntanda Ward, Mpongwe District, and Litawa Ward, Mongu District.
ECZ Corporate affairs manager Patricia Luhanga announced this in a statement, sharing that the vacancies in the two wards are due to the deaths of the area councilors.
Luhanga added that nominations for the said by-elections will be conducted on Tuesday, January 7 next year.
She said the polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on Thursday, February 6, next year.
However, campaign period for the elections will commence on Wednesday, January 8 and will end at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, February 5.
“Aspiring candidates in the by-elections should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer or returning officer on Tuesday, 7th January, 2025 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours,” Luhanga said.
She also added that all the candidates aspiring to take up the seats will be required to pay non-refundable fees to the commission.
