GOVERNMENT stirred up efforts to monitor education standards nationwide by introducing 10 speed boats for use in remote, water-locked areas.
Education Minister Douglas Syakalima announced the development today in Lusaka, emphasizing the need for rigorous oversight to ensure quality and inclusivity in education.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Syakalima highlighted the significant increase in school enrollment due to the free education policy but stressed the importance of maintaining high standards.
The boats, valued at K9.8 million will be deployed across seven provinces in 10 districts where access by road is challenging.
The beneficiary districts include Zambezi and Chavuma in the North-Western Province, Mpulungu in the Northern Province, Kafue in Lusaka Province, and Nchelenge in Luapula Province. Others are Ngabwe in Central Province, Siavonga and Itezhi Tezhi in the Southern Province, and Mitete and Nalolo in the Western Province.
“These boats represent hope, opportunity, and the promise of a better future for thousands of learners and education administrators,” Syakalima said.
“This mode of transportation will also enable education administrators to conduct regular inspections of such schools.”
