Mwaanga stated that those who are brainwashed into thinking that the former ruling party will win the 2026 elections should stop deceiving themselves before they face reality.

The former cabinet minister revealed that the electoral system in America is different from the Zambian system which needs the majority to make an individual win.

He said even though it may be too early to project the outcome of the upcoming general election, he does not think there is any opposition party or alliance that has shown the much needed seriousness.

Mwaanga reiterated that the current opposition in the country has no capacity to remove the ruling party because of its divisions.

“The American electoral system is different from ours. Here in Zambia it’s different, don’t expect what happens in American to happen here. Our record should not be compared to other countries. Here Zambians will elect their own president. Those who think what happened in America will happen in Zambia should stop deceiving themselves but as the the elections draw near, I will make a projection,” explained Mwaanga.

“I said, at present, the opposition does not have the capacity to dislodge the current government. What I meant was that if you look at PF, there are splits.”

The former diplomat also advised the new crop of politicians to stick to selling their ideas to the citizenry rather than playing politics of disrespect and name calling.

“Those going into politics and those who are already there Politicians must learn to tame their tongues. Their tongues put them in a lot of trouble because of what they say, they think that by saying the most violent things or accusing things against others will put them on top.”

“Public life is not about self, it’s not about making money, it’s about serving the people, they must be civil to each other, politics is not war. It’s not about fighting. It’s about selling ideas to people so they can judge for themselves which ideas are the best, I want to see toxic politics wiped out. They must respect each regardless of their status,” said Mwaanga when he featured on Prime TV’s Oxygen of Democracy.
