TREVOR Ng’andu, popularly known as Uncle T, has become the latest person to leave the Socialist Party, following a wave of resignations that have shaken the Fred M’membe-led organization.
In a letter to the party leadership, Uncle T, who had been a member of the Socialist Party for three years, announced his decision to leave active politics and focus on his philanthropic works.
In 2022, Uncle T had contested the Kabwata Constituency by-election as the party’s candidate, finishing third.
Before joining politics, the 45-year-old had gained popularity among Lusaka’s alcohol enthusiasts with his signature “chi cup” at Kabwata Cash and Carry.
Uncle T’s resignation from the Socialist Party continues a trend of departures from the party, which has been plagued by a series of high-profile exits in recent times.
