THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed satisfaction with Zambia’s performance on its economic programme, which will see the institution and government reaching yet another staff-level agreement of US$185 million.
Despite being hit with a natural calamity of a drought that greatly affected a lot of developmental areas in the country, Zambia still managed to please the IMF for the fourth time, through it’s reasonable performance on the economic programme.
The staff level agreement will see Zambia being financially stable for the year 2025, as it will enable the country to have enough resources to allocate to its local budgets and funding such as the procurement of medicines and medical supplies, and also the allocation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which was recently increased.
In a statement released by UPND National Youth information and publicity secretary Francis Kope, said a lot more will be achieved once the IMF management and Executive Board approves the Staff-Level Agreement in December 2024, which will give Zambia US$185 million.
“For our parents and guardians, this means that your Government will have money to give Schools to continue with the Free Education Policy and for our vulnerable people, this means Government will have money to give the vulnerable under the Social Cash Transfer Programme,” Kope said.
He added that the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, will continue to tackle challenges faced by citizens with the help of Development Partners such as the IMF to support our home-grown development programme outlined in the Eighth National Development Plan.
