FORMER president Edgar Lungu says him and his UKA and Tonse alliance partners will work out one resolve to ensure the change of governments so that their stomachs can also be filled with food.
Lungu, currently in a polygamous political with the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) and Tonse Alliance is putting a spirit bid to return to State House after losing power in 2021.
The former president was speaking as he took time to campaign during the commissioning reception service of Deaconess Phaides Mukasa yesterday at the UCZ Lusaka Presbytery, Kafue Consistory.
“Tauka Tili tonse (we’ve woken up and we are together) even those in UKA tilitonse (we are together). At the end of the day tulibantu omwe, tulibantu ba nganda omwe. (We are one, we are a family) what will come out of it is one resolve to change this country to become better, so that naifwe tuleikutako (we should have filled stomachs).
Lungu said just like the church was united he hoped for a united Zambia.
“Regardless of where you are, you are a Zambian ubuchushi tulepitamo nibumobwine so ngatwaeba ati tonse tulipamo, tulipamo (we are going through the same hardships so when I say we are all together, we are together) he said.
Lungu requested the church teaches him how work in unison with others.
“Let’s just be together and God will lead us. So (mutufundeko) teach us how people who are united should behave. Because me am transiting from UKA to TONSE and people are wondering what’s happening,” he said.
Drawing inspiration form re-elected US president Donald Trump, Lungu hoped that Zambians will emulate their American counterparts in electing ‘devoted’ Christian in him.
“American people are special to me because they chose a God fearing man. Mr Donald J Trump is openly a God-fearing man in what he says, he prophases that he believes in God and everything he says comes from above,”
Ukupesha ilungu kwendamo Mwebena Zambia namwendamo (we learn things out of experience) and you know what it is to choose people based on their beliefs and if their beliefs are not right then you have a problem.”
He urged UKA members not to be critical of TONSE members as they can still be allied even when they have different ideologies.
“Ba TONSE tuli pamo(we are together) including UKA, have no mistake about it, so let’s talk well of each other. UCZ teach us how to be united because even when you are different you can still remain united together because we believe in oneness,” Lungu said.
“My friends in TONSE thank you very much for coming through to support us and to support the work of God.”
With his eligibility to contest for a third presidential term for the second time, hanging by the thread, Lungu is using long tested strategy of rallying Christians for support.
He promises to complete the National house of prayer tabernacle when he ‘comes back’ in 2026.
“I promise you when I come back, I will finish that house of prayer. That national house of prayer, I will come and finish that house of prayer and give you the dignity of presence in our government by giving you a ministry of guidance and religious affairs which was taken away,”said Lungu.
