PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has fumed at government officials especially Permanent Secretaries (PSs) who are in the habit of snubbing people who need their help.

Officiating at the 118th Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) annual congress on Thursday, President Hichilema warned that PSs who snub people in need by lying to them that they are at a funeral must stop their lying techniques.

He said such behaviour from officials cannot take the country into development noting that government officials exist because of the same people they ignore.

The Head of State further touched on the issue of implementation in the civil service where he said most developmental projects were lagging behind.

“We need to address the issues of quantity, quality and timely delivery and not giving excuses as we in government like doing. When the farmers want to resolve a problem with us, you PSs say “no, no I have gone to a funeral, no no I’m at matebeto.” Can we work as a team, one solid family. That behavior cannot revolutionise this economy,” lamented President Hichilema.

“The PS in agriculture, you are PS because there are farmers, if there were no farmers you would be PS of what. What would you be doing? Sometimes people don’t reflect or think like that.”

“You are director agriculture, without farmers you will be a director of what? Director, PS in water, without water users you wouldn’t be a PS in water without people. Who pays our salaries? The farmers, so let’s work for them so they can work for us,” emphasised President Hichilema.
