FORMER US President Donald Trump has been re-elected as the 47th President of the United States of America after claiming the crucial battlegrounds of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris with only a narrow path to the White House.
The 78 year old Trump has become the second US President to win a non consecutive second term.
He thanked America for making him both the 45th and 47th President of the United States after he won the battleground in Pennsylvania.
A torrent of congratulatory posts and statements have since started pouring in from around the world with President Hakainde Hichilema being among world leaders that have congratulated the President elect.
In a Facebook post, President Hichilema stated that the UPND administration has fond memories of President Trump’s solidarity and support during its most difficult times then in the opposition.
He said the historic achievement of being elected as the 45th and 47th President of one of the world’s most powerful nations shows how confident Americans have in Trump’s leadership.
“We extend our warmest congratulations to the Government and people of the United States of America on the election of Donald Trump as the forty-seventh (47th) President.”
“We therefore look forward to continuing and strengthening our bilateral cooperation and deepening the ties between our two nations,” wrote President Hichilema.
The historic achievement of being elected as the 45th and 47th President of the United States is not only testament to the confidence the American people have in his leadership, but a demonstration of the free will to chose leaders.
