LUSAKA Province UPND Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta, has dismissed allegations leveled by former president Edgar Lungu claiming that the government aims to “eliminate” him rather than engage in dialogue.
Mwaliteta suggested that the former president’s recent behavior may be due to “memory loss.”
He argued that Lungu’s leadership caused significant damage to Zambia’s integrity and expressed disapproval of dragging President Hakainde Hichilema into “baseless and malicious accusations.”
“It’s clear that this man should be suffering from memory loss, considering that under his rule, the life of our President Hakainde Hichilema was in danger, including those lives of ordinary UPND party members,” Mwaliteta stated.
“For Mr Lungu to state that our government is after his life, is not just unfortunate but a careless talk based on unfounded allegations marred with malice, championing of civil strife and scheming an agenda to make the people of Zambia believe that which is not true for the sake of his political expediency,” noted Mwaliteta.
He also urged Lungu to refrain from involving President Hichilema in social media commentary, warning that failure to do so could lead to legal consequences.
Mwaliteta highlighted that the rule of law has been restored under President Hichilema’s administration, contrasting it with what he described as a “crippled” governance system under Lungu’s leadership.
“His Excellency President Hichilema is working tirelessly round the clock to rebuild the economy which Mr Lungu and his failed team destroyed, hence it being needful not to disturb our Head of State,” explained Mwaliteta.
