CATHOLIC Bishop of Mansa Diocese, Father Patrick Chisanga has called on the church to find initiatives that will reconcile President Hakainde Hichilema and his predecessor Edgar Lungu.
Speaking during the annual feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi in Mansa yesterday, Bishop Chisanga stated that there’s need for the two leaders to reconcile so as to leave room for more reconciliations among other officials.
He said reconciliation does not necessarily mean that President Hichilema and Lungu cannot disagree in opinion noting that even when there’s a disagreement between the two, respect for each other’s opinions should reign.
“Politics come and go, there are people governing us today, there were people governing us yesterday, others the other day. They will not be the last ones, so we should learn to respect each other as Zambians and be able to respect each other’s opinions,” noted Bishop Chisanga.
The Right Reverend narrated that the opposition must also learn to respect the current government no matter their differences.
“If our two leaders reconcile, even others can still do so. It doesn’t mean that they can’t criticise each other when they don’t agree. And when you are cricised as the government, it doesn’t mean they hate you,” said the Bishop.
He also advised government to explain to the country on the causes of the rise in cost of living in order for them to appreciate the challenges.
