PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to bear with him regarding delays in service delivery, citing the challenge of meeting the diverse needs of over 20 million citizens simultaneously.

Addressing 16 Chiefs on Saturday before officiating the Malaila traditional ceremony of the Kunda speaking people in Mambwe district, Eastern Province, President Hichilema noted that leading Zambia like heading a polygamous marriage.

“In August 2021, I entered a polygamous marriage with Zambians who voted me into power,” he said.

“As a leader, I’m obligated to deliver the needs of each citizen, but it’s impossible to do it all at once, given the varying needs.”

President Hichilema reassured the nation that he remains committed to delivering services, staying focused on his obligations, and listening to the people.

“I do listen attentively whenever people speak,” he emphasised.

“I’m in a polygamous marriage, married to over 20 million people, so delivering can be quite busy because each one wants something different, but we still need to deliver,” shared President Hichilema.

“I want to confirm to you that I stay focused. We hear a lot from people who talk, but we must stay focused and deliver to our people as that is our commitment.”
