THE National Assembly was yesterday sent into cheers and murmurs after Chasefu Independent Member of Parliament Misheck Nyambose raised a point of order wondering whether the minister of Health Elijah Muchima was in order to not have informed the nation on the health status of former President Edgar Lungu and his Tonse counterpart Edith Nawakwi.
Nyambose argued that the public needed to know about the health status of prominent national leaders.
In turn, first deputy speaker Attractor Chisangano ordered Muchima to give a ministerial statement on Lungu’s health and Nawakwi’s health statuses this Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Chisangano noted that the Health minister needed to acquire concrete and factual information before displaying it to the public.
“Since he [Muchima] has to gather information, and whatever is brought to the house has to be factual, the honourable Minister of Health should come to the house just to inform the country at large what is happening to… leader for FDD and also our former president, the former president of the republic of Zambia on Thursday,” she directed.
This comes after Lungu shared on his Facebook page, a few weeks ago that his medical trip was going well abroad – the post which he later deleted.
After the deleted post, the country has not heard from the former President with regards to his health.
And the court recently heard that opposition leader, Nawakwi was also terminally ill after she missed two court sessions.
