TWO juju men from Chipata, Eastern Province have found safety under the four walls of police cells after an irate mob turned them into pentecostal drum sets, baptising them with a painful lesson to remove the demon of supposed healing out them.
The painful path to police cells was triggered by their own actions that led to the death of a 63 year old from Chasefu man, whom they administered herbs to and made to consume a razor blade in order to heal his wound.
What started as a quest for healing for Joseph Mvula took the 63-year-old through a path of no return as he died an hour after consuming the razor blade.
The healers were reportedly treating him for a stubborn wound on his left leg that had refused to heal.
Eastern Province Police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, saying the two healers Edwin Ngwira of Nabvutika Compound and Frackson Banda of Walela Compound in Chipata district were met with mob justice from angry locals after Mvula’s death.
The angry mob, also extended their beatings to Abraham Zimba, the man who brought the healers to Chasefu.
Duu! Pya! and Mayo! was the chorus as the irate residents pounced on the three like ending the drought depended on their action to inflict pain on the wrongdoers.
The sight of a police uniform became redemption as officers prevented the traditional healers and Zimba from joining their ancestors.
The trio were rescued and are now in police custody at Lundazi Police Station facing possible charges of suspected poisoning.
“investigations into the matter are currently ongoing,” said Mweemba.
