DESPITE not having a red uniform, thick white beard and a potbelly, father Christmas came in military uniform to bring cheers in the festive season to Nangoma Mission Hospital.
Zambia Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni yesterday swapped the sky security for the spirit of Christmas as he dedicated his day to ensuring that he brought smiles to the Mission Hospital through a life saving donation.
Lt Gen Nyoni handed over a Neonatal incubator, heaters, Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring machines, and a variety of cleaning materials to the hospital, declaring his unwavering commitment to reducing child mortality and enhancing service delivery in rural areas.
However, the festive cheer didn’t stop there!
The Commander also visited the Mother and Child Health Ward, where nine newborns were welcomed into the world on Christmas Day.
Each baby, along with their mothers, received Christmas hampers, an advantage of being born on Christmas day.
“This donation is a testament to our belief in the value of every Zambian life, no matter where they are or their economic standing,” said the commander.
Meanwhile, Nangoma District administration officer Dr Nawa Simasiku, applauded ZAF’s swift medical evacuation services and readiness to assist during natural disasters.
Nangoma District medical officer Dr Katherine Kalumba also joined in praising ZAF stating that there has been a collaborative agreement allowing ZAF Mumbwa Air Base to supply X-ray films to the hospital in exchange for free radiographic services for ZAF personnel.
And the Hospital medical officer in Charge, Dr Derby Mbambo, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, noting that it underscored the strong partnership between the hospital and ZAF Mumbwa Air Base, adding that the donated equipment will further better the works of the hospital and ensure effective results.
