FOR coach Kape Saili, Christmas has come early for her 73-year-old mother after the offer of a new wheelchair by FAZ Women’s Representative Priscilla Katoba.
With her aging mother Highness Chewe Saili’s current wheelchair almost giving up, the family got a pleasant surprise when Colonel Katoba offered to buy her a brand new wheel chair.
Kape, the Technical Director for ZedPro Sports Foundation, took to social media to appreciate Col. Katoba’s generosity.
“Again, please let me appreciate another gallant woman in Zambian women’s football. She has such a big heart and so much love for the game that she goes above and beyond to make sure things happen,” Kape, who played for the Copper Queens between 2000 and 2003, said.
She also coached the Copper Queens from 2009 to 2020.
On Sunday, Col. Katoba called Kape and asked if she could go to their house and see her mother.
After arriving at Kape’s home in Chilenje, she was touched to see Kape’s mother confined to a wheelchair.
“But when she discovered that mum is confined to a wheelchair, she immediately made an order for a new wheelchair. I am happy to report that in absentia, the wheelchair has arrived home. Thank you very much for the kind gesture madam and may Jehovah God continue blessing you. Ladies and gentlemen please allow me to give Madam Col. Priscilla Katoba her flowers for this,” Kape wrote on her Facebook page.
Kape’s mother has been on a wheelchair since September last year.
She keeps both her father and mother and at her home in Chilenje.
The gesture towards Kape’s mother defined Col. Katoba’s philanthropy.
She is a strong advocate for the empowerment of the girl-child and sponsored several girl children to return to school before Government introduced the free education policy.
Col. Katoba owns and sponsors football teams for women in Kabwe as part of empowering the girl child and talent identification.
She mentored Barbara Banda who was on Monday night named CAF woman footballer of the year.
Col. Katoba is also the force behind Racheal Kundananji and several other national team players she mentored while she served as president of the Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club.
