WHILE ears were wide as antennas and the attention drawn towards the case of four people allegedly found performing rituals at the High Court premises, police have stepped in to clarify the situation.
Earlier today, Police officers were conducting routine patrols when they received information that some unidentified individuals were reportedly bathing within the High Court premises for suspected ritual purposes.
However, police investigations revealed that contrary to earlier reports, the suspects were not bathing within the High Court premises but were allegedly washing plastic containers for resale – a common activity among street vendors in the area.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement that the four individuals in question were “vagabonds with no fixed abode” who were found outside the High Court grounds at a location near the roundabout between three islands, where there is a broken drainage system that collects water.
“Further inquiries indicate that this location is frequently used by mobile shoe vendors and street workers to clean their merchandise or containers for their trade,” disclosed Hamoonga
He added that the four individuals have been detained and will remain in custody as investigations continue.
“Boyd Ngosa, male, aged 28, James Banda, male, aged 39, Dismas Sakala, male, aged 36, and Francis Kasote, male, aged 33, the quartet has been detained on a holding charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace,” stated Hamoonga
Hamoonga urged members of the public to exercise caution in spreading unverified information and to report suspicious activities to the police immediately for appropriate action.
