Following the incident that transpired around 10:00 hours, 36 year old Dimas Yombwe of High Cost Area, Mkushi, who was stationed at the toll gate booth ended up being injured as the vehicle went straight for his work station.

The truck’s cabin was extensively damaged, and the George Kunda Toll Gate booth on Great North Road in Mkushi District was also significantly damaged.

Police identified the truck driver as Henry Musariri aged 49 of Lilanda Township in Lusaka, who was driving a Sino truck loaded with an unspecified number of fertilizer bags, a property of Arthur Logistics.

Musariri escaped unhurt but has been detained pending ongoing investigations.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the truck, traveling from west to east, lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed. As a result, the truck collided with the toll gate booth.

“Mr Dimas Yombwe, who was inside the booth at the time, sustained a deep cut on the head, a suspected fractured left shoulder, painful legs, and general body pains. He was rushed to Mkushi District Hospital, where he is currently admitted and receiving medical attention,” shared police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.

The Zambia Police Service appealed to all road users to exercise caution and observe speed limits, especially in restricted zones such as toll gates as excessive speed poses a danger not only to drivers but also to other road users and public property.
