THE Ministry of Energy has called on engineers to step up and offer innovative solutions to address the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba said the Government and Zesco are open to receiving practical suggestions to mitigate power outages.
This came to light after the country witnessed a countrywide emergency power outage on Sunday.
Mumba revealed that the ministry has been receiving dozens of proposals from the public and remains open to more constructive ideas.
“We welcome everyone with solutions. Currently, Power China is conducting a feasibility study on the matter, but we encourage local engineers to approach the ministry or Zesco with their proposals so that we can collectively tackle this issue,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary emphasised the importance of collaboration and urged professionals in the energy sector to contribute their expertise toward finding sustainable solutions instead of complaining.
And Zesco acting managing director Justin Loongo revealed that the utility will next week resume its weekly engagements with the public to foster transparency.
Loongo said the engagements help in reviewing progress while listening to public feedback.
