A MAN of Lusaka and his father in-law have just regained consciousness in the Livingstone General Hospital after a violent fight against each other took both men to the brink of death.
The vicious clash was sparked by accusations of witchcraft.
George Mwila, 31, a resident of Kalinglinga Compound in Lusaka, had been grieving the loss of his young son since February.
Desperate for answers, he consulted witchdoctors and pentecostal papas who unanimously, pointed to his father-in-law, 60-year-old Darion Mukwenda, as the culprit.
Enraged, Mwila traveled to Mukwenda’s home in Ngenya Compound, Livingstone, seeking revenge.
The encounter quickly escalated into an unsantionned mixed martial arts violent street fight, with both men exchanging blows.
According to police reports, in ensuing commotion Mukwenda pushed Mwila in the house, poured petrol on him and set him ablaze, locking him inside the one-roomed house.
Mwila’s survival instincts kicked in, and he fought his way out of the burning building, sustaining severe injuries on both legs and arms.
Seeking revenge, Mwila hurled a concrete block at Mukwenda, striking him on the head and knocking him unconscious.
Neighbours intervened, rushing both men to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital.
Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, stating that Mukwenda remains in critical condition with head injuries, while Mwila is stable.
The police have opened a docket of Grievous Harm, and the case is under investigation.
