A MOTHER of Gwembe district in Southern Province was left in grief and shock after discovering the body of her lifeless four year old daughter, injured and bruised in a suspected defilement case on Friday.
According to reports, the toddler was with the mother Arister Hakanyani on the fateful day at Makuyu market within Gwembe township around 17:00 hours which is just near their home.
While there, the child walked back home alone leaving the mother at the market as their house was only a few minutes away and later, the mother followed her.
Unfortunately, when she reached home, she did not find her daughter home.
The worried mother then inquired from the neighbors who said they saw the toddler playing with her friends a few minutes ago.
Then, Hakanyani’s search intensified, as other neighbours joined to help.
They then reached a nearby stream, where they found the toddler’s body dumped and lifeless besides the stream.
With emotions of shock and grief combined, the mother promptly rushed to report the matter to Gwembe Police station for assistance.
Southern Province police commanding officer, Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident and said officers visited the scene and found the child’s body which was inspected to have white stuff coming from her mouth and blood stains on the private parts.
“The body has since been deposited at Gwembe District Hospital awaiting postmortem to be conducted to ascertain actual cause of death,” said Daka.
He added that police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the murder as they have instituted investigations to bring the culprit to book.
