A CENTRE of hope, love and light for autistic and special needs children has been established in Kabwe of Central province, courtesy of the country’s First Lady, Mutinta Hichilema.
The Mutinta Hichilema Autism and Special Needs Centre which was unveiled yesterday by the First Lady aligns with the 8th National Development Plan on enhanced access to quality, equitable and inclusive education.
This transformative facility, now a symbol of inclusion and progress will offer a safe haven for children with autism and other special needs by providing them with free education and a conducive environment where every child is understood, nurtured and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Built with support from different corporate partners, the centre set the stage for what it has become back in 2022 when the construction started.
Speaking during the launch in Kabwe yesterday, Mutinta stated that the centre will help families who have long yearned for a place where their children can thrive despite the challenges they face find solace.
“This centre will remain a symbol of hope and inclusiveness through the provision of education for all people especially the marginalised. With our partners, we envisioned a Centre where every child with autism and special needs is nurtured, understood and given opportunities to reach their full potential.”
“This Centre belongs to the children and their families and it is our hope that it will be a home of joy, progress and boundless possibilities. Together, we are building a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed, one step at a time,” stated Mutinta Hichilema.
She expressed gratitude to all the cooperating partners who supported the dream and ensured that the Centre was completed.
For families of children with special needs, the centre stands as a sanctuary where children are celebrated for their unique strengths and given the tools to flourish.
