THE Ministry of Education has announced that it will not advertise for this year’s teacher recruitment as it will rely on the information in the database of applicants who submitted their applications last year.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Education minister Douglas Syakalima assured unemployed teachers that government will not tolerate corruption of any form in the recruitment process.
Syakalima said the ministry has commmited itself to handling the recruitment in a transparent way in the way that the process shall be subjected to an objective validation process to ensure that only eligible applicants are selected.
He added that an addition of 4,200 teachers will be recruited this year bringing the total number of recruited teachers to 41,422 since the UPND took office.
He said the recruitments are part of the UPND manifesto and a direct response aimed at reducing the teacher pupil ratio following the introduction of the free education policy.
“It is therefore expected that all those involved in the recruitment process should adhere and uphold the tenets of the code of ethics for the public service and any officer who shall be found wanting shall face dire consequences.”
“This message goes to the prospecting teachers to conduct yourselves in a manner befitting of a good citizen by ensuring that you do not advance bribes to be recruited as doing so would be at your own peril,” he said.
He further reminded the prospects to report to relevant authorities if any officer in the ministry makes them pay to be recruited.
