GOVERNMENT has cautioned its supporters and social media keyboard warriors against commenting on the recently released pastoral letter by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB).
On Friday last week, ZCCB released its pastoral letter where it raised various concerns on the state of the nation.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kalumbila on Saturday, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa stated that the letter is addressed to the government, hence, only government is allowed to respond.
Mweetwa said all the concerns and allegations raised in the letter had been taken note of by government and a response will soon be applied by engaging the Catholic church after scrutiny.
“The government has taken note of the pastoral letter issued by the ZCCB wherein they have raised a number of concerns, assertions or allegations. Government in noting the letter dated 15th November, 2024 and paying attention to gravity of the matters raised in that pastoral letter wishes to dedicate some time to study it in detail before giving a full measured response to the Catholic Bishops.”
“We urge our supporters out there that no one should take it upon themselves to begin to respond to what issues the Catholic Bishops have raised in the pastoral letter. That letter is addressed to government. We have already seen on social media various reactions. We are studying that matter and at an opportune time we will be able to respond to the Catholic by way of engaging them and if need be, update the nation,” said Mweetwa.
Mweetwa who is also Information and Media minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to working with the church as it remains a significant partner to the government of the day.
