THE Higher Education Authority (HEA) has warned papas and the clergy to desist from the temptation of dishonestly assuming and misappropriating to themselves revered academic titles of doctor and professor.
Addressing the media yesterday, HEA Director General Kazhila Chinsembu noted that there has been a tendency of some papas calling themselves doctor or professor of which he said was a crime.
Professor Chinsembu stated that any clergy that will be found wanting will have to face the law.
“If you are a pastor or bishop of a church, how will you enter heaven if you steal the academic titles of doctor or professor,” he wondered.
He also noted a tendency where traditional leaders have now started wearing doctoral graduation gowns and regalia at events.
He said the authority was taken aback by the trend of which he urged the royal highnesses to desist from wearing academic clothes.
“Let us leave the graduation gowns and regalia to where they belong,” urged Professor Chinsembu.
