A Mazabuka-based music producer has been taken into police custody on accusations of defiling an upcoming teenage gospel singer at his studio on Friday.
According to sources, the 15-year old singer from Malubale compound in Nega-Nega area, informed her mother that she was heading to the studio to inquire about her song, recorded a month prior.
With her mother’s permission, she left for the studio around 10:00 hours in the morning.
Upon arrival, the music producer known as DJ Alvis Hampongo instructed her to wait in his bedroom, citing ongoing recordings in the main studio.
The young artist complied, only to be followed by Hampongo who was armed with condoms and demanded she remove her clothes. He then proceeded to rob her of sexual innocence.
After the traumatic ordeal, Hampongo accompanied the victim outside for a conversation.
However, their encounter was cut short when the victim’s mother, suspicious of her daughter’s prolonged absence, arrived at the studio. The mother immediately sensed something amiss and inquired about the delay.
The brave teenager revealed the shocking truth, prompting her mother to swiftly seek medical attention at Nega-Nega clinic where examination results confirmed the defilement.
With the help of community crime prevention unit members, the mother orchestrated the arrest of the culprit. CCPU officer Kelvin apprehended Hampongo and handed him over to Chikankata police station.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the incident. “A medical report form was issued, and a case docket opened. The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting court appearance.”
