FIRST Quantum Minerals, the owners of the imported giant cold box, have so far spent over K13 million in facilitating its movement whose journey begun from Walvis Bay in Namibia – through the Katima Mulilo.
The giant cold box whose final destination is Kansanshi Mine is Solwezi has attracted attention and huge crowds as it crawls through various districts on its way to Northwestern Province.
This morning, the colossal cold box will rumble into Lusaka from the Shimabala Toll Gate. As it crawls through the city, it will take the 70/70 route, negotiating its twists and turns, before emerging onto the Great North Road at the 9 Miles Roundabout.
According to report by Hot FM, FQM’s Kansanshi Corporate Affairs Manager Kyansenga Chitoshi, colossal sums of money are being spent on road rehabilitation, reinforcement of bridges, removal of possible obstacles such as traffic lights, overhead speed cameras and cables to ease the movement of the cold box.
The cold box is part of FQM’s upgrade and, expansion of the smelter at Kansanshi Copper Mine.
