THE once powerful former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo, has begun a 323.1-kilometer journey to Luanshya, where he will face the consequences of his actions.

Lusambo’s troubles got into high gear last Thursday when the Luanshya magistrate Court convicted him of unlawful wounding in absentia, prompting a frantic search for him.

In a desperate bid to evade capture, Lusambo, nicknamed the “Bulldozer,” squeezed into the cramped ceiling space of his Chamba Valley home.

However, police were hot on his trail and expertly tracked him down, extracted him from the ceiling and marched him into detention at Chilenje Police Station until this morning.

Under heavy guard, Lusambo was whisked away in a Zambia Police Land cruiser for the six-hour journey to Luanshya.

Lawyer, Jonas Zimba witnessed the start of Lusambo’s journey, while his worried wife, Nancy, watched sadly as the vehicles drove off.

Details of the case leading to Lusambo’s conviction are that, on April 11, 2019, Lusambo attacked Stanley Musukwa, a 58-year-old NDC member, using a machete, and caused him severe head and facial injuries which left him unrecognizable.

Luanshya magistrate Penstone Chiluba said the evidence adduced by witnesses indicate that Lusambo was at the crime scene and was identified as the assailant.

He acquitted Lusambo of assault due to insufficient evidence.

Magistrate Chiluba said he would pass his sentence once Lusambo was apprehended so that he could give him an opportunity to mitigate his case.

He issued a warrant of arrest against Lusambo and ordered that police shepherd him to court for his sentencing.

Undaunted by the looming specter of a three-year jail term, Bowman Lusambo emerged from Chilenje Police Station with unyielding resolve. Spotting journalists, he raised a defiant fist and boldly declared his intention to reclaim power.

“Okay guys, we are strong, we are coming back in 2026! We’re very strong, we are coming back to take power in 2026,” Lusambo shouted, his voice ringing out as armed officers shoved him into the waiting Land cruiser.
