PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has lectured Mulungushi University students about the importance of knowing what they have followed at school and sticking to their values.

Addressing students at the 16th Mulungushi University graduation in Kapiri Mposhi yesterday, President Hichilema stated that those who are still pursuing their studies must not consume alcohol or do dodgy stuff such as smoking or getting into mini marriages but concentrate on their studies only.

The President noted that those who are at universities must consider themselves lucky as millions of citizens are not privileged enough to go to university.

“Spend your time studying, marriage must wait, nafimbi ifyashala (and other things) they must wait. There’s time for everything. Now is to study. Merry making will come. This is not a time for consuming alcohol, this is not a time for smoking stuff. This is not a time for dodgy things.”

“You are a rare individual, count yourself lucky, many people want to be in school. Make your families proud. We will continue supporting education,” said President Hichilema.

And to the graduates, President Hichilema stated that one cannot claim to be a graduate if the only thing they have to their name is the certificate and not the skills.

He said there was need for the new graduates and anyone pursuing higher education to invest in developing their skills as they can open doors of success for them.

“You have the keys to open the door. You can’t say you are a graduate and the only reason you claim to be a graduate is because of a certificate hanging in on the wall. That certificate is a piece of paper. That paper should reflect what you do with these lecturers imparted in you.”

“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. You will cry like a baby,” noted President Hichilema.
