LUSAKA City Airport was yesterday covered with emotions as former Cabinet minister Chishimba Kambwili and two others were being received from Kasama to Maina Soko and University Teaching Hospitals respectively, following an accident.
Kambwili, his lawyer Kennedy Mambwe and the driver Kennedy Mwila were involved in a road accident on Tuesday that took away the lives of his two brothers Pastor Mutale and Mwamba Kambwili.
The former Information Minister, his lawyer and driver survived the accident with serious injuries.
Information and Media permanent secretary Thabo Kawana was at hand to receive the trio yesterday as they were evacuated from Kasama to Lusaka at City Airport.
Kambwili groaned as he was being received by the Zambia Airforce personnel and doctors from Maina Soko Military Hospital.
His children Chanda, Kabamba and Mwamba in tears, looked on their father who seemed to be in excruciating pain which he couldn’t resist and the only way the former minister could let it out was through a wail.
“Mayo nafwa, mayo, mayo, nafwa eeh, mayo, mayo (mummy, I’m dying, mummy, mummy),” whimpered Kambwili.
Kawana, led the senior government officials and PF Members of Parliament represented by Brian Mundubile and Law Association of Zambia vice president Matildah Kaoma were also at the airport to receive the injured individuals.
Kawana said government was saddened by the accident.
He revealed that government had since made arrangements to transport the remains of the deceased from Kasama to Luanshya for the funeral and burial.
“We pass our sincere condolences to the Kambwili family and this government will do everything possible to help the family,” stated Kawana.
Mundubile and Kaoma thanked government for having acted swiftly to evacuate the accident victims.
