A YOUNG woman has become a widow barely three months after marriage, following her husband’s sudden death this morning.

Bwalya Kasonde, 32, of Chilanga district in Lusaka, a former employee of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and student of Mungwi Technical High School was today traveling to the Copperbelt to attend the funeral of his uncle.

Early today, he drove off on a mourning journey to the Copperbelt using his Toyota Vitz, registration number,  BAG 2972 with four passengers on board.

But unfortunately and unknown to him, his morning good bye to his wife was his last as he died in a road traffic accident around 07:00 hours today leaving his family in a double tragedy.

He was today among the five people that lost their lives in an accident that happened at a curve near Golden Valley along the Great North Road in Chisamba district around 07:20 hours.

According to Central Province Police Commanding Officer, Charity Munganga, the accident happened when the driver of a Sino truck water bowser with registration number, AGB 9618  was overtaking improperly, in the process colliding with Kasonde’s vehicle.

Munganga said the truck, coming from the opposite direction was actually supplying water to the company constructing the dual carriage road.

“The driver of the Toyota Vitz and three passengers died on the spot, while the fourth passenger died whilst receiving treatment at Liteta Hospital. The driver of the Sino truck escaped unhurt,” said Munganga.

The commissioner added that the five bodies have been deposited in Liteta Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
