AGRICULTURE minister Mtolo Phiri says those who think it is easy to deliver as Agriculture minister should try it just for a night.
Speaking at the launch of the Winter Maize Harvest in Copperbelt’s Mpongwe District
yesterday, Phiri revealed that it is not easy to be a minister of Agriculture under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership as the President gets to demand for delivery of development often.
“Colleagues, if you think it’s easy to be a minister of Agriculture, try one day, I give you just one night, you see how many phone calls you get from the president in the night. Some of them not very friendly,” said the minister.
He said his ministry is doing well so far in facilitating a good environment for farmers and companies that seek to farm for the country’s food security.
Phiri added that the ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that no one dies of hunger in the course of the drought.
“FISP is there for you, it is coming. If there are a few issues we will resolve them. That FISP is yours when you pay the K400, immediately go and redeem.”
“Mr president we have also delivered the fertiliser, it’s everywhere in the country. It’s up to the farmers to go and get that fertiliser.
No one dies in this country because of drought. We are buying the maize from farmers and taking the maize closer to the people so they can access the maize,” he said.
