A 25-YEAR-OLD medical student of the University of Lusaka (UNILUS) and former pupil of Choma Secondary School, Stanley Majid Mudimba had allegedly committed suicide at his hostel, after fighting depression for months.
While he never confided in anyone over his depression, Stanley posted on his Facebook, explaining the betrayal that he went through that led to his depression, barely 23:00 hours before his self induced death.
In the post, he explained that in the last few months, he had been saving up money to buy himself a car, that he would start online hailing services for business.
Stanley managed to organise a K75,000 but the market demand did not match up with the money he had, as many people selling cars online were pricing them at K85,000 going upwards, so he engaged a trusted friend, who he believed was in the position to help him.
But this is were the story now teaches about betrayal, as this was the beginning of his depression.
Majid’s friend, who he did not mention allegedly introduced him to a car dealer who told him he could get him a brand new car from Nakonde at K95,000, but definitely, that was beyond his budget, so he negotiated until the price was dropped to K85,000.
Understanding that the advantage that would come with the car financially, he opted to look for more money, especially that his named friend even advised him to just go for it, as Yango would give him at least K3,000 monthly.
To cut the long story short, Majid had to credit money from money launderers of up to K18,000 which he paid the dealer, but instead of getting the vehicle, he received mortuary silence from the dealer, who went quiet on him for months.
Stanely ended up running to the police, where he said he spent more money, a K5,500 which he allegedly credited to pay the police to track and pick the incognito car dealer. But it was to no avail.
This left him in depression and he started drinking alcohol, running from his room escaping from the people he owed.
According to Stanely, it was later revealed that the friend who introduced him to the car dealer knew that the dealer was actually a thief.
“I was so broken this is the guy who has seen me these past months battling with depression cause of the debts I got from people. He saw me starving because every money I get I always have to pay people, he saw me being sent call outs at the police regarding debts and yet he knew everything.”
“I feel so betrayed. I really trusted my friend and I was always there for him. He saw me drinking alcohol everyday trying to clear my mind due to debts and yet he didn’t care. He saw me running away from my own room, yet he didn’t care…I have learnt about depression little did I know I can be a victim of it. Never trust anyone. I forgive you bro. I wish you nothing but the best,” posted Stanely on his social media yesterday.
Unfortunately, depression won against him, as he ended his life in the early hours of today, by taking a poisonous substance.
Police are yet to confirm the incident and give further details.
Depression is real, check up on your friends and family. But despite that, suicide is never a solution, there is always a way out to every problem. Talk to a someone when troubled, there is always an ear ready to listen.
