AS the country dedicated Friday to celebrate the works and efforts of teachers in curving futures, one of the celebrated heroes died in Eastern Province after he was attacked by criminals on his way back home from the celebrations with a colleague.
Fred Musinda, 31, a teacher at Kaviskeske Primary School was with a fellow teacher, Ethel Phiri, also 31 of Mankhaka Primary School after 21:30 hours on Friday, heading to their homes after the teachers day celebrations.
The teachers day celebrations were held at Mwase School, were they traveled using an unregistered motorbike in the morning.
On their way, they encountered criminals between Mwase and Mankhaka zones in Mwase Sub Center.
The assailant are said to have used planks to inflict serious injuries on the two victims.
Phiri managed to escape the attack after a few injuries and ran to a near by bush were she called for help leaving Musinde at the mercy of the attackers.
Sadly, this saw him succumbing to the injuries and died on the spot while the criminals went away with the motorbike.
For Phiri, she was escorted to Mwase police station by community members where she was issued with a medical report and later rushed to Lundazi General Hospital for treatment.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident and said Phiri sustained a cut on the forehead, three other cuts on her head, an injury to her right arm, and a dislocated right shoulder.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they found Musinda’s body 20 meters from the road where he had been attacked. He had sustained multiple head injuries and a fractured skull and the motorcycle was not found at the scene,” Mweemba said.
Mweemba added that police have currently instituted investigations in the matter to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
