THE Zambian Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA) in collaboration with the Zambian Police has nabbed scammers who are fond of asking for viewing fee each time you ask if they have a house or plot for rent.

It looks like the party is finally over for some of these enterprising scammers as ZIEA and the police, decided it was time to sweep the streets of Lusaka.

Yesterday, the two institutions nabbed over 40 so called estate agents who were more interested in your wallet than in helping you find a home.

According to a statement, the suspects had been conducting their lucrative hustle without licenses, contrary to the Zambia Institute of Estate Agents Act No. 21 of 2000.

The raid hit several areas of Lusaka, where these smooth talking con artists were operating freely and charging unsuspecting house hunters, ridiculous fees.

The Institute urged members of the public to ensure that they verify the credentials of any estate agent they wish to engage by checking the ZIEA registry, which lists all licensed professionals.

ZIEA warned that engaging unlicensed estate agents not only jeopardizes the integrity of transactions but also increases the risk of fraud.

“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to clamp down on unlicensed Practitioners who undermine the real estate industry by providing substandard services, thus putting consumers at risk.”

“Further investigations are currently underway, and more details will be provided as the case progresses,” read the statement.
