A COUPLE of Itezhi-tezhi district in Southern Province one fateful day woke up to a rude shock after discovering that their 12 year-old daughter was missing from her hut outside their home, where she sleeps from.

In the evening of September 12, this year, the family said their goodnights as usual and went to their respective huts to sleep after having family supper chats.

And in the morning, the mother, woke up very early to start up a fire before the house chores could begin, but she noticed that her daughter who always helps her with the chores was still sleeping.

To her, her young daughter might just have overslept.

But worry struck in after she went in her hut and discovered that she was not in it.

She informed her husband and the perturbed parents began searching for their daughter, who was only discovered later that day in the afternoon after she returned back home on her own.

When questioned about her whereabouts, the girl told her parents that their neighbour, Twaambo Chiwiigi aged 19, trespassed into her hut during the night and abducted her.

She said she was later taken to his house and defiled her the whole night, only releasing her the following day in the afternoon.

Angry about the information received, the survivor’s parents quickly attempted to confront the suspect but he had fled the village.

The child’s father aged 42, then reported the matter to Itezhi Tezhi Police Station last Thursday.

Southern Province Police commanding officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident and said police issued the survivor with a medical form and also opened a docket on the matter.

“No arrest has been made yet as the perpetrator fled the village. However, a man hunt against him has been launched by police,” said Daka.
