Lusaka marriage lasts 7 months because hubby economised with instrument of power

WITH hope of changing his uncaring wife to care, a 42-year-old man of Lusaka’s Chunga compound resorted to denying her the right to his instrument of power of which she is a share holder of.

But was this the right punishment for his aloof wife?

Unfortunately for Richard Sikanyika, he touched Gertrude Paimala, 31 where it hurts the most.

She could bare any punishment, including refusing to eat her food, but not just denying her bedroom happiness.

This made Paimala rush to sue Sikanyika for an official divorce in the Matero local court to end their marriage yesterday as they had been on separation longer than in their home.

She told the court that the couple tied the knot in 2022 but that they have been on separation for one year and five months, stating that they never lived in harmony in their marriage.

The plaintiff said her husband later resorted to refusing to eat both her food, and the person that cooked it saying he was too tired to chew both meals.

“He would always refuse to eat my food when I prepare. He would refuse to give me conjugal rights claiming he was stressed and he would sleep out without informing me,” she said.

This behaviour saw Paimala becoming a volcano most of the time as her temper would erupt hotter than a lava as she did not start a day with a morning glory.

And despite having a marriage with few erections, the couple managed to make a baby in the seven months they stayed together.

“He then chased me out of out of our matrimonial home claiming that I do not care for him and now, he does not support our child financially where I am. I do not love him anymore,” she submitted.

Meanwhile, the defendant and sexual punisher, Sikanyika said he did not have a lot to say except that his wife was not caring at all.

He said she had an altitude of a passport officer, forcing him to punish her by ensuring her pot of happiness saw no moisture in their marriage.

“My wife was not caring towards me, i saw this the time I was not well, she was not showing me any care. I chased her like she requested but when I tried to bring her back, she refused to come home with me. I love her and I want her to bring my child,” said Sikanyika.

The plaintiff said she wanted the marriage to end while the defendant said all he wanted was for her to take his child to him.

In passing judgement, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga said both parties lacked proper communication in the marriage and that they have no love for each other as they had not been in the marriage for a long time.

“Divorce granted, no compensation awarded to either party, custody of the child given to the mother and be compensated with K,1000 monthly effective September 30, 2024, subject to review yearly,” said Magistrate Mulenga.
