A SOMBER ceremony at the Army Chapel in Arakan Baracks with the silence of mourning was punctuated by heartfelt tributes to the late Police deputy Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale.

As the congregation gathered to honor his memory, his widow, Hellen Phiri Mwale, expressed the deep loss she and her family now face.

Hellen, unable to speak herself due to the overwhelming grief, had her tribute read by Precious Mwanga.

Mwale, a dedicated police officer known for his unwavering commitment to his job and family, passed away unexpectedly on Friday after a sudden illness leaving the whole country in shock, especially the media that fondly interacted with him.

In her tribute, Hellen painted heartwarming picture of her husband as both a devoted police officer and a pillar of strength for his family.

“My darling husband, Mr. Danny Mwale, to us you are a well-cherished and loving husband, a dedicated worker, and a source of my strength, together with the rest of the family,” she said through the reading.

Hellen recounted Mwale’s kindness and generosity, which left an indelible mark on those around him, including strangers who encountered the couple.

She remembered his daily warm greetings to neighbours, an image of his caring nature.

“May you rest in eternal peace and as you always said each morning when most people passed greetings including myself, Mwauka bwanji atate ndani, make ndani, kwachelanji? Awe tiliko nalelo (good morning, it’s a new day, we are there even today),” Hellen shared.

Hellen also reflected on Mwale’s role as a father, sharing the values of hard work and perseverance he instilled in their three sons.

“Your wisdom will guide us as we live life without you. I will always remember you and cherish the days we spent together as you installed in us values that we will carry on even after your presence,” she added.

“It’s a new day for me and the rest of the family for I have to learn to live without you. Your laughter and warm interactions will echo in my heart and hearts of many others. Yours forever loving wife, Hellen Phiri Mwale.”
