VICE President Mutale Nalumango has called on citizens to conserve water as the country faces drought, exacerbated by climate change.
Nalumango advised Zambians to use the current water available jealously.
She said this on arrival at Dushambe International in Central Asia (Tajikistan) where she is representing Zambia at the Third High Level International Conference on International Decade for Action.
The event is being held under the theme: “Water on Sustainable Development 2018-2028,” taking place from 10 June to 13 June 2024.
Nalumango stated that Zambia no longer has the record of water abundance following the devastating effects of climate change.
The Vice President noted the need for citizens to transition to more efficient utilisation of water as the country grapples the worst drought.
“We need to manage the water properly as a globe, as a nation [and] as a region. The water that we have, had, is no longer the same so how do we manage this rare resource? it’s no longer the abundant resource even if you have it, it’s in the negative sometimes,” said Nalumango.
The Vice President disclosed that Zambians had taken water for granted thinking that it would always be there.
