THE suspicions of a Choma farmer of theft were finally proved right after he finally caught red handed and shot a thief coming out from his chicken run, after successfully stealing his broiler chickens.
Chile Mweemba aged 50, the owner of Mweemba Farm in Choma district, Southern province had for long experienced several theft at his farm which led him to start conducting night patrols at his farm to protect his property.
During the early hours of Saturday, around 02:00 hours as he patrolled his property while armed with a short gun, he observed that his chicken run where he keeps broiler chickens had two holes on the wall which he never created, suggesting that there was an intruder inside.
Mweemba then moved closer to the house and then saw a thief who was swiftly coming out and he began running after him.
He ordered him to stop, but to no avail forcing him to shoot at him and his leg got awarded for his fast pace with Zambia’s most fierce processed mineral.
A bullet kissed his leg and the romance was so intense that it made him numb completely halting his locomotion as the dust rose in applause while the ground welcomed him.
Mweemba then immediately picked the thief and took him to Choma Police Station where the matter was reported.
In confirming the incident, Southern Province Police commanding officer, Auxensio Daka said acting on the matter, officers quickly issued a medical report form and the thief was rushed to Choma General Hospital where he has since been admitted for treatment and his condition is said to be stable.
Daka also added that the suspect was later identified as Nkulu Mulenga aged 20.
“The firearm has been secured at the Police pending further investigations and the scene is yet to be visited. Inquiry file opened, more to follow in the matter,” said Daka.
