Kabwe-based chef Matildah Chipuma battled exhaustion and hallucinations but fell short of her ambitious goal of grilling nonstop for 140 hours.

Despite stopping at the 80-hour, 24-minute mark, Chipuma managed to break the previous record of 80 hours held by American Jan Greeff.

The event, hosted by Lucky’s Comedy, saw Chipuma pushing her limits over the past three days.

Event staff noticed a shift in Chipuma’s condition around the 78-hour mark.

“She was willing to keep on going but she’s a human being, she started saying things off topic. She started saying ‘give me space I need fresh air.’ The brain was tired, she started hallucinating…she even stopped communicating [and] she just went off.”

“The good part is that she managed to break the record Guinness world record.” said Lucky Hangwane popularly known for Lucky’s Comedy.

While Chipuma didn’t quite reach her intended goal, she has earned the admiration of many for her perseverance and record-breaking achievement.
