The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has moved to dispel rumors of a diesel shortage in Zambia.
In a statement issued yesterday, ERB Acting Board Chairperson James Banda assured motorists that there is sufficient diesel stock available at the Ndola Fuel Terminal for uplift by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
Banda also directed OMCs to collaborate with INDENI Energy Company Limited to meet their diesel requirements.
He stated that the companies should ensure that the products are made available at their retail sites across the country.
He revealed that this should be done in compliance with operating requirements as outlined in the license conditions.
“INDENI has been directed to ensure the expeditious supply of the commodity to avoid supply disruptions in the retail network,” disclosed Banda.
“The ERB is closely monitoring the fuel supply situation to ensure that any challenges are addressed timely and that the product is made available at retail sites by Oil marketing companies.”
This announcement comes after a meeting held on Tuesday between Energy Minister Peter Kapala, OMCs, and the ERB to discuss challenges faced by OMCs in supplying petroleum products this month.
The ERB emphasised that OMCs must ensure the product reaches retail stations across the country in accordance with their licensing conditions.
