FIRST Lady Mutinta Hichilema has taken a strong stance against early marriage, urging Zambian children to prioritise education and advocate for their rights.

During a gathering at State House, the First Lady emphasised Government’s commitment to protecting children, particularly girls and boys forced into marriage before reaching adulthood.

“Early marriage deprives you of your right to education, good health, and a life of your choice.”

“Focus on your education, work hard, be resilient and don’t give up when faced with adversity,” she said.

The First Lady addressed the children directly, encouraging them to empower themselves and demand a better future for themselves.

She pledged her unwavering support in their endeavors while advising them to focus on their studies, to focus and work hard.

The First lady highlighted the importance of her role as a national mother, which was to advocate for the well-being of all Zambian children.

The fight against early marriage is being bolstered by the Ministry of Education.

Plans include comprehensive career talks targeting 100,000 students, along with 25 career exhibitions and an internship programme for 300 participants.

These initiatives aim to equip young Zambians with the knowledge and experience to pursue fulfilling careers, furthering their personal growth and lessening the appeal of child marriage.
